How much bandwidth does a sipgate call require on my broadband connection?
A one-hour call contains 70 to 80 MB of data, with data transmissions typically approaching
100 Kb per second and per direction (upstream and downstream).
If you don't call much, this isn't much of a problem. When not active, the phone generates very little traffic; usually only enough to talk to the sipgate servers and tell them the line is ready for use. As a general rule, it is best to have a DSL line that supports 128 Kb upload speeds.
It is not a good idea to have two sipgate phones on the same personal router. It does work however, but additional ports must be opened. See above.
Professional routers may support multiple phones, but we don't recommend it, as not all routers will work and these types of routers require special configurations.
